Digital Identity Management

The state-of-the-art for fingerprint acquisition is using flat bed scanners. While there have always been hygiene concerns when scanners are touched by many hundreds of people, touch a scanner has always raised hygienic concerns, but nowadays, in times of the pandemic far greater attention is being paid to, the problem of spreading viruses via surfaces has gained enormous attention. Hygienic solutions are desperately needed – and such a solution has now been presented by AIT: The new touchless- four- finger (T4F) scanner uses a camera to capture images of four fingertips simultaneously. The characteristic features (minutiae) are determined by the software. As present identity data bases consist of flat finger prints, AIT has also developed a method for matching the features of the touchless fingerprints to references in a database, allowing the T4F scanner to operate seamlessly. Thereby, authentication and identity verification processes can be done in the same way as today.

Another problem associated with touch-based scanners are latent fingerprints – touchless operation renders identity theft impossible.

The AIT T4F scanner is an advanced product incorporating cutting-edge electronics, optics, and embedded computing capacity to operate the algorithms for fingerprint capture, imaging and recognition.

It is intended for use in police stations and government offices which need to determine/verify personal identities and issue visas.

AIT has also developed
a mobile version of the solution:

Smartphone-based software supports police officers needing to check the identity of a person in the field.
